Following an extensive global search with over 70 applications received, we are delighted that Dr Jimena Zalba will be joining our team as our Primary Principal from summer 2022.
Jimena brings with her a wealth of experience from a number of great international schools, as well as a deep understanding of the IB and NEASC. Indeed, her learning focussed educational philosophy aligns perfectly with ours. Jimena is currently Co-Primary Principal at the International School of Prague and was previously Primary Principal in Cambodia. She has also worked at the American International School of Bucharest as Deputy Principal and PYP Coordinator.
Jimena is an educational leader with over 21 years of experience serving international schools in the Czech Republic, Romania and Cambodia as a PYP coordinator, Associate Elementary Principal and Primary School Principal. In these roles, Jimena has been actively involved in leading, championing, and facilitating the implementation of research-based innovations with a high impact on student and teacher learning.
When colleagues describe Jimena they use words such as ‘caring’, ‘change agent’ and ‘systems thinker’. Jimena leverages these qualities to build, nurture and sustain thriving school cultures with a relentless commitment to inclusion, learning and wellbeing for all. Jimena is also a passionate and avid learner: she holds a Master’s in Education, a Post-Master’s in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Education (EdD). Jimena’s doctoral research and dissertation focused on developing the professional capacity of educators in international schools.
Jimena said, “I am very excited to join the wonderful ISB community as the next Primary Principal starting July 2022. I was grateful for the opportunity to meet ISB’s students, educators, parents and board members during my visit a few weeks ago. During these two days, I discovered that ISB is a caring learning community, bound together by trusting relationships and a passion for its mission to inspire, equip and empower every learner to be successful and to contribute positively to society. My many conversations with ISB’s constituents surfaced, time and time again, the community’s unwavering commitment to each learner and to becoming an even stronger learning-focused school. It is clear that ISB is on a very exciting journey of transformation and I am looking forward to joining this dynamic community and together building on the great work that has already been accomplished in the Primary School under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Warren and Ms. Netzel. I am truly honoured and grateful to have been chosen as the next Primary Principal and I am thrilled to be joining you with my husband, John and my two teenage children, Sophia and Mateo”.
