"I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning." -Plato

Students have many opportunities for music at ISB.  In grades six through eight, students are encouraged to grow as musicians through the development of sight-reading skills, singing as part of an ensemble, playing an instrument, composing original works, and using technology in the music classroom.  They are invited to explore the development of our world through the eyes of a Classical musicians, jazz players and singers, and percussionists.  Musicians at ISB understand the universal language of music and they can acknowledge and appreciate music from across the globe.  Within the Performing Arts class, students can be found collaborating, celebrating, inquiring, and growing through the art of music.

Through our CESSA league, musicians can travel for a four-day choral music festival in January for Middle School students and a choral and band festival for High School students in April. AMIS, which is an international music organization, offers students the chance to travel throughout Europe to participate in various choir experiences. The music ensemble class focuses their attention on learning the ukulele, with the aim to perform during the Performing Arts showcases throughout the year. High School students can sign up for the Rock Band, which is run as an Co-Curricular Activity throughout the year. The Rock Band plays various shows, including showcases, performances, and even at the International Spring Fair.
There are also many opportunities to study instruments through private lessons available from members of the community.
